History:
Created in 1779, Wayne County was created out of the western half of old Dobbs County. Later on in 1791, Dobbs County was again divided into Lenoir, and Glasgow (which later renamed Greene county after 1799). At this point
Dobbs County no longer existed. Wayne County was named after the hero of the Battle of Fallen Timbers in the Revolutionary War, General Anthony (Mad Anthony) Wayne.
