A community is only as good as its people.
And a strong and thriving community is only achieved by people from different walks of life interested and willing to come together to identify problems and work toward solutions.
Relationships, whether they be friendships, marriages, between children and parents and even among coworkers, all need to find common ground to thrive.
True leaders understand the concept that to succeed, you need to surround yourself with successful people. In order for a relationship or a community to succeed, people who want the best for others need to work together to improve the standing of everyone.
We all have our biases and personal views about life, which are formed many times by our experiences. We may or may not like someone or something and we may not trust someone else. But, as a whole, if you are concerned about the issues facing Goldsboro and Wayne County, do something to move the needle to make the area a better place to live.
Building a better community takes a willingness to work with people you prefer to not work with, to compromise and stop looking at who gets the credit.
Other towns and cities in North Carolina have found ways to form working groups of a cross-section of leaders in different segments of the community who identify problems and seek solutions.
Goldsboro and Wayne County can do better. The concern and the resources to bring change are out there.
But above all, to achieve a better community those who can push forward changes need to work together and concentrate less on who gets the credit.
In 20 years, what will truly matter is the type of community we all create by the choices we make now.
